Contrary to the -claim of the Chairman of Student Union Electoral Commission, Obafemi Awolowo University, Fadele Olushola that the university authority only loaned them N400, 000 to conduct the Students’ Union election, Association of Campus Journalist (ACJOAU) has authoritatively confirmed that the commission actually got N1,000,000 from the management.
ACJOAU has earlier accused the electoral commission of misappropriation of funds as a result of their inability to provide necessary electoral incentives including accreditation tags for those who have responsibilities to perform during the election.
When questioned by the journalists on the rationale behind inability of the commission to provide required logistics, Olushola claimed that the management of the institution did not disburse money to them to run the election.
Investigation however revealed that the commission did not lack fund as claimed by the commission chairman and duly funded by the university management.
According to the Dean of Students Affair, Professor (Mrs) Akinola, the electoral commission submitted the budget of N2.7 million and the management approved N1 million.
She confirmed that the commission was given the sum of N200, 000 in two occasions making N400,000, another N100,000 and later N500,000 towards the end of the election making the total amount disbursed so far N1,000,000
Meanwhile, the electoral body denied receipt of N1,000,000, the commission claimed that the DSA borrowed them N400, 000 in batches of N200,000 each.
