OAU Workers Protest Over N2Billion Deducted  Allowances

The Non Academic Staff Union, NASU and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU Obafemi Awolowo Universiry, Ile – Ife Chapter today embark on a peaceful protest to demand the payment of over N2 Billion deducted alowances since 2004.
The workers in their hundreds thronged the Freedom Park of the university with placards to express their displeasure about the non payment of 75 months allownaces.
Acxording to the union, the report of the Task Force set up by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Anthony Elujoba has revealed that the management of the varsity have been deducting monthly allowances of the university staffs since year 2004.
The two unions also calimed that the Federal government has approved implementation of the payment since 2013 and wondered why the university managment are still delaying the payment.
SSANU Chairman, Comrade Ademola Oketunde while speaking to Ife City  News said “we are not protesting for closure of this university, but we fighting over career structure, we don’t want our children to cause us when we are no more and that’s why we fighting for the allowances of our members.”
Okunade said the union suspect the newly consirituted governing council chaired by Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi as the body frustrating the process of the payment.
He said  “we all know that the acting VC  set up a task force that came up with substantial evidence, that they truly deducted the staffs alowances,  yet, the  governing council said they did not believe in the document that a forensic audit should be carried out, they council is only play on our intelligent and want to cause another crisis in the university”.
“We are on the same page with the Federal Government, our protest is against corruption and we are indeed disappointed that the Governing Council is not helping matters” he said.
