Professor M. A. Aluko of Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife and member of the university Governing Council, has pleaded with the protesting teachers of OAU Staff School agitating for Nine months unpaid salary to halt the protest for 48 hours an allow him to interface with all concern authorities.
Professor Aluko pleaded with the protesting teachers while ddressing them at the Senate building of the university on Thursday.
He said “we are monitoring the situation and I am sure they are taking steps on it. You cannot fight the battle alone, please I beg you to suspend the protest for 48 hours so that necessary things can be put in place”
He explained that the suspension is not to suppress the agitation of the teachers rather to find a lasting solution to the crisis and optimistic that all concern authorities will listen to the demand of the teachers. .
“This is a long battle, I enjoin you not to give up, I am not a traitor and the governing council cannot cancel staff School.”
Professor Aluko explained the university will be advise to focus on the university IGR to resolve the funding crisis affecting the staff school.
However, a teacher in the staff school who spoke to Ife City News under condition of anonymity said “we thank Professor Aluko for his intervention, we have agreed to pause the protest for 48 hours but we want to send him to the management that we want our monthly payment alongside with other staff of the university ” .
It will be recalled that Ife City News exclusively reported yesterday that the workers are protesting the non-payment of 9 months salary.
