Youths of Ile Ife have been advised to acquire more knowledge on Islam and western education to be mentally and economically independent.
Former Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) National Commissioner , South West, Professor Lai Olurode stated this while delivering a lecture at Enuwa Central Mosque in Ile- Ife during a Ramadan programme organised by the Muslim Congress(TMC).
He said poor education mainly responsible for poverty and easier radicalization of youth to terrorism arguing that proper understanding of Islam and western education are essential for the youths to secure a better future for Nigeria.
He explained that the only way the country would transform to a better society is for the youths to combine religion knowledge and western education.
He lamented that major problems affecting Muslims is ignorance about the true teaching of their religion.
According to him, combining both western and Islamic education will effectively help Nigeria to metamorphose into an ideal nation.
He recalled that the first revelation of Qur’an was a directive from Almighty Allah telling Prophet Muhammad to read which means to seek for knowledge.
