Group Challenges OAU Management on Prudency, Students Welfare

By Adejumo Kabir

Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM) a social rights group, Obafemi Awolowo University, has accused the university management of misappropriation of funds.

This was contained in a special release signed by the General Secretary of the group,  Mr. Adaramoye Micheal who argued that it is saddening and pathetic that within just few days after resumption, living conditions of students have deteriorated to a pitiable and horrible state.

DSM condemns the miserable development which has become a norm after the fresh students paid what the group described as exorbitant and outrageous fees to the university management.

The statement read “it is necessary to assert that the decay infrastructures on campus is due to the negligence, embezzlement and misappropriation by the university management, despite charging obnoxious fees; they have failed to give any form of attention to the facilities on campus. Despite the rottenness of campus, the management has callously made the supply of water and electricity erratic”.

DSM said aside the disappointing state of facilities on campus, many fresh students are forced to reside off campus due to the unavailability of accommodation on campus.

The group is of the opinion that fresh students residing off campus can be easily exposed to danger which could have been prevented by the university management if accommodation were provided
