The Vice Chancellor elect of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede has said that, he is not satisfied with the current state of accommodation in the institution.
The newly elected Vice Chancellor disclosed this in an interview with campus journalists.
Professor Ogunbodede said: “one thing is certain, I am not comfortable with the state of accommodation we have on campus presently. I know the current administration is working towards making it good. It was sad, when I got to one of the halls of residence after my emergence as the new VC to see students spreading clothes in grass. I believe some simple measures can be put in place.”
He said his administration will focus on students accommodation as priority having understand the key issues affecting the students.
IFE CITY NEWS investigation revealed that OAU only has capacity to provide accommodation for 9, 000 students out of about 35, 000 students in the university which has resulted to overcrowded hall of residence.
On the prevailing cases of theft and non-students residing in halls of residence, Professor Ogunbodede advised the university community to be vigilant.
“Such cases are not inevitable, but the security on this campus is robust. The problem can be solved if we all agree to solve it by not compromising the issue of security”, he said.
