Commission Dismisses Modakeke Request for Traditional Autonomy

The Judicial Commission of Enquiry Constituted by the Osun State Government to examine the disputed traditional chieftaincy matters in Ife Zone has dismissed the request by the Modakeke community to have separate traditional autonomy.

The commission headed by Justice A. B Abdul- Kareem at its proceedings in Osogbo, the State Capital held that there cannot be a separate and independent Traditional Council in Modakeke despite having Area Council.

According to Justice Abdul- Kareem, history and available evidence before the commission established that Ogunsua remained the subject of Ooni of Ife and cannot have separate independent traditional authority.

The commission therefore struck out the Modakeke application and adjourned other matters till further notice.

Other matters postponed for ruling includes a request placed before the commission to decide whether every family in Modakeke can produce Ogunsua. It was adjourned till the final presentation of the  commission white paper.
