The Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University today hosted an Associate Professor of History from Western Carolina University, USA, Dr. Saheed Aderinto to speak on the topic: “University Experience In Global Perspectives”.
Dr. Aderinto in his interaction said the students of the varsity do not need to study in the United States of America to have global experience saying social media has provided formidable and easier platform for students global academic experiences.
He said “When you graduate, you will compete with people globally and whatever skill you acquire on OAU Campus must be useful to impact the world effectively “.
He also admonished the students not to participate in students’ activism that will disrupt the academic calendar in the institution.
He said: “In order to be effective globally, we need to be civil because education is not just to about the degree acquired but a place to learn how to articulate demand in civil manner”, Aderinto stated.
Aderinto who lamented the decadence in the Nigeria university system said “we don’t have good leaders in Nigeria because we don’t produce good leaders. We don’t produce good leaders because the Universities in Nigeria don’t lead students’ right”
