OAU Students Faults Proposed Senate Building

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, are expressing reservations on Titanic Ship Model proposed Senate Building for the institution.

Though, the project is reportedly to be funded by the Central Bank of Nigeria but many student described the project as “white elephant” which should be of less priority considering the various challenges facing the university.

Many students who spoke with Ife City News were of the view that the fund could have been channeled towards the construction of new lecture halls, hall of residence that to lessen the effects of crowded lecture halls and hall of residence.

Uthman Samad, a student of Department of English in in chart with our reporter said considering the difficulties faced by students on Campus, it will be advisable that more lecture theatres be built for the convenience of students.

Oloyode John Electrical Electronic department said “OAU management ought to have persuaded the CBN to build more halls of residence for students instead of a new senate building, the two senate buildings we have already are better than some institutions finest building “.

According to him, the proposed senate building is misplacement of priority since the existing senate buildings are in good condition still retain its beautiful edifices.

The first OAU senate building has fifteen floors with second senate building with over 40 offices.
