OAU SU, ACJ Meets Police Deputy Commissioner Over Insecurity

The Students’ Union leaders and Association of Campus Journalists of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile met with the state Deputy Commissioner of Police on the 27th of June 2017 to register their displeasure over the unpleasant incident happening to students residing off campus.

The President of the Students’ Union, Oyekan Ibukun led the students to the Ife Area Command of the police to seek protection for the students residing outside campus .

Deputy Commissioner of Police  in charge of Ife Area Command John Abang who listened to the grievances of the students on the negligence of the policemen in Ife that is exposing students to danger and increasing insecurity in off campus.

The union president complained that the police are found of harassing students but has failed woefully in protect their lives and property in the ancient city.

He requested for regular patrol of the off campus area especially in the midnight that student are experiencing robbery attack.

DCP Abang in his response attributed the challenges to lack of require personnel and urged the students to always employ dialogue to issues.

He promised to convene their grievances to the commissioner of police and strengthen security patrol in the affected area.
