The Students Union Executives, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife recently organised organised a leadership submit for the members of the union.
The summit which was held at Oduduwa Hall of the university titled: “Leadership: The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea” focused on the practical approach in handling leadership responsibilities.
Dr Tope Esan, an Associate Professor from the College of Health Sciences who was one of the guest lecturer enjoined the students to navigate their ways towards making Nigeria a better place against all odds.
Esan explained that navigation is an important skill that a leader needs to learn, saying student’s leaders are serving the purpose of maintaining mutual peace between the management and the students.
According to him, student’s leader must be charismatic and always conduct themselves in a manner that will be appealing to followers by avoiding problems through proper negotiation with the authorities.
He also admonished union leaders to lead by example by projecting collective will of the students and ensure peaceful coexistence and be consistent as leaders.
Also, Emmanuel Anderson, in his lecture said the exchange of knowledge and ideas is germane and sacrosanct with the academia even in the real life situations and all realms of human existence.
Anderson said the student movement should be enriched and strengthened with robust debates and diplomatic maneuverings.
