Breaking : 10 Burnt To Death, 2 Injured In Ile -Ife Motor Accident

At least 10 people have been confirmed dead and 2 others injured in a ghastly motor accident which occurred in the early hours of the day along Ibadan – Ile Ife, road.

The accident which occurred around 11:58am, involved a 18-seater commercial bus which had collision with a Diesel Tanker while trying to overtake from the lanes and result to explosion after the crash.

The collision immediately sparked off an inferno which trapped and burnt passengers beyond recognition.

The victims were evacuated by a combined team of officers of the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

As participants in the rescue operation were busy bringing out the charred bodies from the carcasses of the bus, sympathisers were wailing on sighting the victims’ remains being dumped into rescue vehicles of Seventh Day Adventist Hospital.

The identities of the dead and injured  could not be acertain as at the time of filling this report but  the remains of the victims have been deposited at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital Morgue,  Ile Ife while the 3 injured were taken to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Mr Usman Drisu, the FRSC Sector Head of Operations, Ile Ife who  visited the scene confirmed that 10 persons were burnt to death and 2 were seriously injured.

He said, ‘a bus and a diesel tanker moving in the same direction collided and caught fire with 12 persons inside.

According to him, the bus was moving fast, while the tanker in front want to cross to a filling station, the bus suddenly rammed into the tanker and caught  fire.

“10 people were burnt to death, while 2 persons were seriously injured, among the deceased were 3 babies, 2 female, and 5 male” He said.

He advised the transport drivers to follow the traffic rules whenever they want to overtake.
