Following the controversies surrounding the purchase the Union bus by Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union, the Representatives Council (SRC) has suspended the Union President, Oyekan Ibukun and Financial Secretary of the Union, Omisakin Kehinde .
The two union officers were suspended for two weeks for alleged breach of constitutional provisions in the process of purchasing a 14 seater bus for the union which has led to sharp division among the students leaders and members of the congress.
Also, an investigative committee has been set up by the house with Hon. Jamie Esho representing Faculty of Technology as the Chairman of the committee and Hon. Ogunremi Khadijat from Faculty of Law as the Secretary of the committee. Other members of the committee includes: Hon. Adewole Kayode (Education), Hon. Omoyeni Olamide (Arts), Mr. Olasehinde Boluwatife, a student of Basic Medical Sciences and Mr. Oloniran Gbenga, a student of Social sciences.
The main task before the committee is to investigate the accurate price of the bus and report back to the SRC within two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Vice President of the Union, Jacob Tosin has assumed the position of Acting President with the suspension of the president until till the committee return to the house with the report of their investigation in two weeks time.
