Immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Professor Anthony Elujoba was reportedly detained by Economic Financial Crime Commission on Wednesday
The former acting Vice chancellor who stated during his handing over speech to the new VC that the EFCC, Zonal Office in Ibadan has denied him the possession of his International Passport .
The detention of the university don was reported to be in connection with the alleged ‘unapproved’ hazard allowances payment to the institution’s workers totalling over N1b.
It was allegedly sourced from the university’s endowment funds account which is usually dedicated for projects.
It should be recalled that upon resumption to office, the former acting VC paid hazard allowances to the workers after continuous protest and unrest in the university which was major reason why members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities at the institution protested against the former administration headed by Prof. Bamitale Omole.
The former acting VC has been summoned by EFCC in December 2016 alongside the Bursar of the institution, Mrs. Ronke Akeredolu for clarification on the allowances paid to the worker.
Meanwhile, all efforts to reach Prof. Elujoba proved abortive as at the time of compiling this report.
