The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed determination to provide all necessary tools required in ensuring that the agricultural intervention project to be pioneered at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and bankrolled by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the tune of N3 billion records a huge success.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe, said the focus of the intervention is to revamp the institution’s Soil Science Department to improve soil test and management in order to determine the appropriate quantity and type of fertilizer to be applied on farmlands in different parts of the country.
The minister, who spoke at a public forum, organised to sensitize members of the university and host communities to avail themselves the opportunity said the intervention project will contribute meaningfully to the government’s initiative to diversify the nation’s economy with emphasis on pivotal role of agriculture.
The public forum was facilitated by Chairman OAU Governing Council Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi.
The minister expressed disappointment in the hardship which the prevailing economic recession in the country has on the citizens.
He regretted that the country had failed to properly utilize all its endowment and resources for the benefit of the citizens.
