An Osun State Magistrate court II sitting in Ile Ife on Friday remanded in prison two men — 20-year-old Seun Olawale and 19-year-old, Sani Mu’azu — over alleged theft of two generators valued at N24,000.
The accused, whose addresses are unknown, are standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy shop breaking and theft.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ijiyode Olamilekan, who gave the order, said the accused should remain in Ile Ife prison until the next date of adjournment.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Emmanuel Olatuyi, told the court that the complainant, Mr Yusuf Muhammad from Iremo quarters reported the case at the Police station in Ile Ife on July 25.
He said the complainant went to his shop at 8.00 a.m. located at Iremo, only to discover that some unknown persons had broken into the facility.
“The accused conspired and stole the complainant’s two generators and three phone batteries valued at N1,200, two phones, chargers and 25 earpiece.”
According to him, the accused were caught while trying to sell off the stolen items.
He argued that the offences contravened Sections 96 and 288 of the Criminal Code laws of Osun State.
However, the case was adjourned to September 23 for further hearing.
