The Hall Executives Council, Awolowo Hall of Residence, Obafemi Awolowo University,  (OAU)  have reacted to the criticism of the residents  over the poor condition of the hostel.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the hall and General Secretary ,  Samuel Olayemi and  Olakanmi Abdullahi respectfully.

The executives in  the release appreciate Awoites for their endurance adding that they are making frantic efforts in making the hall a humanly abode by pririotising student  welfarism.

According the statement,  “the Executive Council got the unpleasant news of the halt in the supply of water in the Annex section of the hall precisely the second week of July. Immediately, we swung into action as we met with the hall warden that same day and he promised the matter would be looked into.

“Also a call was put through to the Dean Student Affairs and we were informed that the appropriate quarter was on the matter already as the motor tanker that has always been used in the transport of water from the dam to the halls of residence which cut across all the halls of residence  and even the staff quarters is faulty and its actually on repair.

“It was after days of no action that the Chairman of the hall and the hall warden took it upon themselves to find out the situation. It was discovered that the motor tanker in question has developed a major fault that would take much time to be repaired.

“ The executives then proceeded to a meeting with the DSA and demanded an alternative motor tanker if truly the one in question will take time to be repaired. The dean made it clear that day they were making efforts to get a private water tanker temporarily but quite unfortunate that they have not  been able to get one as all the water tankers they approached  turned down the offer “.

The executives further explained that the water challenge according to the DSA was not peculiar to Awo hall, that it affected other hall of residents and staff quarters.

They   apologised for  insufficient information on the matter and promised that  the grasses will be cleared in no distance time after the completion  of Angola hall clearing  while the operators will   move down to Awolowo hall.
