The Assistant Secretary General of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Students’ Union, Oyebanjo Oluwaseun has started a debate competition initiative tagged: “The Platform”
The maiden edition of the debate featured fresh students hall of residence on the topic: “The Use of Capital Punishment; Is It Barbaric?
Angola hall beat Mozambique hall with 21 points against 16 points.
The Dean of Students’ Affairs Professor Ishaq Aransi, represented by Mr. Ilesanmi, commended the AGS initiative of the debate competition and pledge to continue the division support for such laudable initiatives.
Dr. Tayo Owoeye of Department of Sociology, who was also present at the programme lamented that crime has caused serious harm to Nigerians and called on the judiciary to demonstrate will in tackling crime with available provisions of the constitution.
“Crime including injustice, social vices, parental neglect and others should be avoided by individuals or group of people”, he said.
A participant, Ajayi Ife, a female 100 level student of department of Chemistry said the programme is a welcome idea and looked forward to the continuation of the programme.
Another student, Ige Tunde of Management and Accounting told our reporter that the programme will make students socially, academically and morally relevant in their society.
The facilitator, Oyebanjo the ASG in his remarks thanked OAU students for the love they showed towards making the programme a success story.
