Following a core course offered by all 200 Level students of Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, titled “ Community Development (DCE 205), the faculty students recently organised themselves in batches to clean up the university community to meet up with 20 marks field work score for the course.
According to the lecturer in charge of the course, Mr. A. O. Paul who spoke with IFE CITY NEWS said the cleanup project is to teach students that education goes beyond four walls of classroom but to exemplify what they expect from the society.
“Faculty of education trains future teachers and lecturers; the aim of the course is to build students that can contribute more to the community. These students will be able to lead the next generation right. It is a compulsory course for all part two students in order to make sure all of them participate”, he said.
The students also expressed satisfactions in the project as many of them were seen rejoicing while carrying out the project.
Some of the students stormed halls of residence for the cleanup, another group of students clean up lecture theatres and others paint zebra crosses on the university road.
Clever Victor, the class representative of English Education students said: “we have learnt that education is more of developing our immediate environment, we won’t tolerate our students later in the future to feel comfortable in a dirty environment”.
