OAU Undergraduate Students Commit Suicide Over Poor Grade

Mercy Afolaranmi Olamide, a 100 level student of department of Microbiology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has killed herself.

The deceased committed suicide  in her one room apartment residence, in Sabo, Ile-Ife outside the campus of the institution on Thursday.

It was gathered from a her neighbor, Bimpe Oni that the 16 year old lady took rat poison coupled with battery extract which led to her death as a result of emotional pressure.

Also, another student, Aisha, who is a colleague of late Mercy revealed that the decease earlier had ‘E’ in CHM101 result that was released recently.

“Mercy often isolate herself in class and often look depressed. She told me she had ‘E’ in CHM101 and has been going around unhappy before this incident”

Meanwhile, OAU Dean of students affairs, Professor Isiaka Aransi confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation with our reporter on Saturday.

“Although the reason and cause for her death is yet to be known

“The division is aware of the death of Mercy, she was a student of department of Microbiology whose body has been taken to hospital for autopsy. When the result is out, the university community shall be communicated “, Aransi said.
