The Aguro of Ife, Chief Arifayo Awe who died on 20th September, 2017 was laid to rest at his family compound at Kosere road in Ile Ife, on Saturday.
Late Aguro of Ife died at the age of 60years, after a protracted illness.
Many pastors within and outside the shore of Nigeria, were assisted by the General- Overseer of Cathedral Church in Ile Ife, Pastor Johnson Okero to perform the burial rite in a Christianity way
Sympathisers could not hold back tears as he was lowered to the grave, he was described as a honest and dedicated community leader.
Dignitaries at the ceremony includes , Traditional Rulers, Ile – Ife Palace Chiefs, politicians, community leaders, market women among others motorcyclists, transport unionists, traditional rulers and many others.
Reacting to the death of the late Aguro, the Lowa Adimula of Ife, High Chief Adekola Adeyeye described the deceased as a voice of peace.
“He devoted his life to the promotion of peaceful co-existence and tolerance”
“He was an epitome of peace and a bridge builder who lived a simple and austere life. He lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.”
Also a renowned Pastor, Mr Israel Owolabi described him as a reformist, progressive and goodhearted person.
“We have lost a father. Ile Ife has lost a father and one of the last few standing pillars of an ending era,” he said.
The President Ife Progressive Council, Mr Olajiire Awowoyin also extolled the qualities of the late Aguro of Ife, describing him as a man of peace and unity.
He said, in a tribute to the deceased, that his death was a monumental loss to Ile Ife.
