OAU SU President Allegedly Abscond As Students Protests Black Out

As students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife resume back to school for second semester of 2016/2017 session, they resume to a total black out institution for the past six days.

The students marched down in their numbers to the office of the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Isiaka Aransi to show their displeasure over the unpleasant state of the varsity.

The Dean was said not to be in his office when the students which lead to the students rushed down to the union building to hear from the  Students Union President, Oyekan Ibukun but he allegedly absconded.

One of the protesters, Idris Tiamiyyu  told our reporter that on getting to the student union building, Oyekan Ibukun was seen absconding through the office of the Secretary General of the Union

Another students who spoke under the condition of anonymity  accused the President of destroying the door.

“He broke the door to abscond students agitation, he is always sabotaging the interest of the students.”

Meanwhile, the President of the Union, Oyekan Ibukun denied absconding in a telephone conversation with our reporter.

“I did not abscond, I was not present at the union building. They voted for me and we all need to fight for students welfare. Necessary measures will be put in place”, he said.

Also, the Head of Power unit,  OAU, Engineer Olasupo Wuyi had said the power blackout has to do with cable faults and appealed to students for the embarrassment.

“We are working tirelessly to find solution to the power issue. It is due to cable fault and we have detected the fault.”
