Protests: OAU Suspends Students’ Union Officer Indefinitely

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has suspended one of the Students Union officers, Oluwalade Babatunde, a 400 level student of Department of English pending police investigation what the institution called criminal activities allegation.

Babatunde, who is the Chairman of the Transport Management Commission, received his suspension  yesterday.

According to the letter dated October 6 and signed by the university Registrar, Mr. Dotun Awoyemi the offense of the suspended student includes forcefully chasing students out of the class under the guise of protesting an alleged unsatisfactory power supply, for blocking roads in campus alongside with others with threat of violence, for seizing the vehicles of members of NURTW and vandalising  transport vehicles of others.”

However, he was ordered to vacate the university and forbidden from participating in any activities of the university within or outside the university campus.
