An Osun State Magistrate Court II sitting in Ile Ife on Wednesday, sentenced a 32 year-old man, Segun Adeoti, to five years imprisonment for stealing 5 motorcycles worth N1million.
Segun who resides at Lagere area in Ile Ife, was convicted on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft, contrary to Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge, urged the magistrate to temper justice with mercy.
In his judgment, Magistrate Ijioyode Olamilekan held that the court had taken into account the fact that the convict was a first time offender.
Olamilekan sentenced the convict to 12 months imprisonment for theft and in the alternative to pay a fine of N10, 000.
For conspiracy in the charge, the magistrate ordered the convict to pay the sum of N1million to the nominal complainant, as compensation for the stolen motorcycles or serve four years imprisonment.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Yusuf Sale, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Oct. 1, 2017.
He said on the same date at about 11:30a.m, the complainant, Isma’il Olawale,was robbed by the accused person.
