Obafemi Awolowo University outshined other universities at the essay competition held during the 15th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) in Abuja.
A 400 level student of department of Civil Engineering, OAU, Idowu Jamiu, was announced the winner of the essay contest in the conference tagged ‘Unity 2017’ with the theme- Civil infrastructure development in a challenging economy, held in Abuja with the attendance of several Nigerian universities such as University of Uyo and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta as participants.
The essay topic was “Engineering Education in Nigeria: a status quo to be maintained”. Ibokette Wisdom from University of Uyo and Adeoye Adeniyi from Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta came second and third positions respectively.
“It is a great honour and privilege to emerge as the overall winner of this national essay contest. I appreciate the opportunity given by Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers for engineering students to showcase their ideas on reforming Engineering Education in Nigeria”, Idowu said.
