The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, Osun State, has paid the Earned Allowance to its workers in compliance with the Federal Government directives that the money released be paid to every segment of the University workforce.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju.
Olanrewaju affirmed that members of all the Unions:
Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria University (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) benefited from the earned allowance.
It will be recalled that the non teaching staff unions of Universities, comprising the Non Teaching Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) have embarked on an indefinite strike action against the Federal Government over an alleged disparity in the disbursement of Earned allowance to all the staff unions in Nigerian Universities.
He futher stressed that: “with this development, the management, therefore, appeals to its striking workers to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign on campus.”
OAU non teaching staff commenced strike action with the national body of JAC on Monday, 4th of December following opposition of the aggrieved staff unions to sharing ratio of the money for earned allowances released by the federal government.
The disputed proposal for OAU is 89 per cent to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, while the three non-teaching unions take the remaining 11 per cent.
