Magistrate Ijiyode Olamilekan of an Osun State Magistrate Court II sitting in Ile Ife on Tuesday, sentenced a 35-year-old man, Gabriel Peter, to two years imprisonment for stealing phones worth N200,000.
The defendant, whose address was not given, was first arraigned on a three-count charge of burglary and theft.
He had, however, pleaded guilty to all the counts and pleaded for leniency, saying he stole the items to enable him raise some money to help his family.
Magistrate Ijiyode gave him an option of N250,000 fine.
The magistrate sentenced Peter after listening to the facts of the case, reviewed by the prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Osanyituyi.
Osanyituyi had told the court that the convict committed the offences between November 30 and December 29, 2017.
He noted that Peter and others still at large unlawfully entered into the premises of the complainant, and stole three phones worth N200,000.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 287, 308 (2) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Osun State, 2015.
