Ile Ife was agog on Friday as. Muslims, Residents, tourists stormed the ancient city for the annual Eidil Fitr festival.
Our correspondent tour round the ancient city on Friday morning indicated that various socio- economic and many activities are at their peak for the festival.
Decorations adorn the length and breadth of Ile- Ife with Muslims faithful offering prayers for a successful and hitch- free festival.
Several tourists thronged many statues, as they were seen taking pictures beside the statues.
Security personnel, comprising of officers and men of the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Commission were present at the Eid prayer ground to ensure security.
Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) were also stationed to provide additional and back up security to security officers on ground
Traders and residents of Ile Ife took advantage of the festival to display their wares while food vendors, souvenir sellers, photographers among others, made brisk business.
Beggers and needy at the town felt so elated as they received countless numbers of gift and money.
The Chief Imam of Ile Ife, Sheikh Abdul Samii Abdul Hamid, enjoined Muslim faithful to use the Eid el- festival to show love, unity, kindness and peace.
He urged Muslim faithful to use the Eid el-fitr celebration to pray for Nigeria, especially with the present economic realities which had threatened the unity and progress of the country.
