Twenty-four hours after his kidnapped, Professor Olayinka Adegbeingbe from College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University regained its freedom on Sunday. The senior lecturer was abducted around Apomu on his return to Ife from Ibadan in the car with his wife.
He was singled out for the kidnaped. As at the time of filling this report, IFE CITY NEWS cannot confirm if ransom was paid for the release of the lecturer, his release was confirmed by university management, the police force and the palace of Ooni of Ife.
Folashade Odoro, Osun State Police spokesperson confirmed Mr Adegbeingbe’s release to journalists in Osogbo.
Also, Ooni of Ife’s Media aide, Moses Olafare, in a short release sent to Journalists said: “Having spoken to his wife a couple of minutes ago, I feel so glad to break the good news that Prof Yinka Adegbehingbe of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery of the Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), Ile-Ife, who was yesterday (Sunday) kidnapped along Ibadan road around Ikoyi-Apomu axis has been released and now in the proper care of the Nigeria Police.”
The university Public Relation Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju late Monday night told journalists that the lecturer was on his way to the campus in company of security agencies, to be reunited with his family.”
It was gathered that he was abducted in a robbery attack that occurred along Ife/Ibadan express way around 9:15pm on Sunday while traveling from Ibadan to Ife.
