Amidst the challenges facing students of Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile Ife, with respect to the new accommodation policy, the authority of the institution has evicted 100 level students in Block G of Angola Hall as a result of what OAU authority tagged ’emergency renovation’
IFE CITY NEWS gathered that the students were sent out without any palliative for the accommodation pending the completion of the renovation.
One of the occupants in the block who did not want his name to avoid victimisation told our reporter that: “We were told about 2 Weeks ago that they want to renovate the hostel. Last week Friday, they asked us to pack our things and we did. They told us to squat with our friends but it made them inconvenient so we left to relax in our various rooms on Saturday. Then the Hall warden came to evicts us”
“Left without alternative, they continue to sleep in the hall with the labourers until Tuesday September 17 when the students were denied entrance into their respective rooms.
The students have since then been squatting, IFE CITY NEWS learnt.
However, efforts by this newspaper to get the reaction of the university proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
The Dean of Students’ Affairs, Isiaka Aransi, refused to respond to calls nor text messages on the matter.
